A Service of appreciation of Roger Edwards

Location: Bethesda Chapel, New Street, Mold

Amongst Revd Roger Edwards’s many accomplishments, he is to be credited for his influence on the literary career of Daniel Owen, the subject of our festival.   According to the Dictionary of Welsh Biography:

As editor of Y Drysorfa ( 1847-86 ; up to 1853 jointly with John Roberts of Liverpool ), by first publishing in serial form his own novels, starting with Y Tri Brawd , 1866 , he allayed Methodist suspicion of fictional literature and thus prepared the way for Daniel Owen (q.v.) , whose ‘discoverer’ he was, inducing him to contribute Y Dreflan to that journal.

A Welsh language event.
